Every 12th July, commemorations of the Battle of the Boyne take the place in Northern Ireland , when William of Orange defeated the army of the Catholic Jacques II in 1690.
On the night of the 11th July, bonfires are lit all over Northern Ireland and the 12th July, parades and re-enactments of the battle are organized.
